Melissa Ortiz's Online Porfolio

Methods: How I Teach
Since the class is only one hour long, professor Laura and I split the time. For the first half of the class, Laura teaches the students from the book. Sometimes it includes a short listening, or matching the picture to the words. Nonetheless, the students are able to focus on grammar and vocabulary.
During my half of the class, I make the students write their own customer-customer support (informatica) script and present it in front of the class. This helps the students practice their English as well as receive feedback from me.
I do like to change it up by using online websites such as Kahoots! and PowerPoints (see Final Project tab) before exams or when I am working on their professionalism.

Kahoots!
Kahoots! are timed quizzes that can be shown on the projector and the students can answer the questions using their phones or computers. What makes Kahoots! better than the standard paper quiz is that they include fast paced music and images. There is also a ranking at the end of the quiz with quirky animations.
All of my classes are obsessed with Kahoots!, and I have fun creating them.
When I create Kahoots! for both Informatica and Educacion Fisica classes, I make sure to include spelling, grammar, and many curve balls.

Kahoots are a great way to get the students to think quickly because they are timed questions.

Below are just some of the Kahoots I have created:
